Word Count 389 Declare War on Spyware Shareware, freeware – beware! The old saying “Nothing is truly free” was never truer than in today’s information age. Adware, spyware, malware, yikes, they’re everywhere. Consider this scenario: Your car and garage are secured. Your curtains are drawn, and your windows and doors are locked. You’re safely tucked away in your own home, but you’re online looking for free recipes, music, smiley faces, diapers, vacations, instant wins, etc. Meanwhile, scores of little electronic “spies” are gleefully sliding down Internet wires and splashing into the information pool known as your hard drive. Electronic “critters” are programmed to swim about your digi-places extracting what they can about you and your habits. You’re not alone. Spyware, piggybacking on so-called “free stuff” invades 9 out of 10 computers today. These hidden programs work in the background recording your keystrokes, web browsing history and purchases, causing pop-ups when you’re browsing, or even when you’re not browsing, redirecting your searches to their own search engines, changing your browser’s toolbar, harvesting credit card numbers, and more. Many of these programs are nearly impossible to remove and, say computer scientists at the University of Washington in Seattle, “…can be used to hack into and take complete control of your computer.” “One solution,” say these computer scientists, “…is US legislation that aims to bring spyware under greater regulatory control.” However, they are doubtful of this solution materializing, adding, "We do expect that companies can and should use tools to scan their networks."
Xoftspy, by
ParetoLogic, is the tool that provides just that level of
protection. Xoftspy scans your computer network to find and uncover
nasty spyware, adware, malware, spybots, keyloggers, invasive
toolbars, browser hijackers, pre-timed pop-ups, etc. wherever they
may be hiding. Xoftspy has declared war on these computer parasites.
