Top 10 Weight Loss Program Types

The top 10 weight loss program types we will be examining are not merely 10 programs. Programs come and go. So, rather than choose 10 single programs, we are going to examine the 10 main types of weight loss programs. Most diets fit into one of these main categories.


Mr. Calorie

The big problem is Mr. Calorie! You see, he’s a big hunk of unused food fuel (kind of like a lump of coal) who wants to move into your body and just hang around until he goes all soft and jelly-like and then spreads himself thickly around parts of your precious torso. The goal is to get rid of old Mr. Calorie. To this end, several different diet programs exist representing differing theories for dealing with stubborn Mr. Calorie.

For Example:

  • The Exercise theory says “Run him to death.” “He’s only fuel; make him sweat and he’ll melt away.”
     
  • The Low Calorie theory says, “Just don’t invite him in and you won’t have to get rid of him later.”
     
  • The Low Fat theory is similar to the Low Calorie Theory, but it says, “Hey, did you ever look at a stick of butter? That’s where most of the Mr. Calories tend to hang out. Avoid fat and you will avoid most of the Mr. Calories and maybe even protect your heart from Mr. Cholesterol while you’re at it.”
     
  • The Low Carbohydrate theory gets a bit trickier and says, “Well, actually there are two Mr. Calories -- Mr. S.S. Calorie (Sugars & Starch) and his brother, Mr. P. F. Calorie (Proteins & Fat). It’s Mr. S.S. Calorie who is the bad guest. Let his brother in, but never let him in.
     
  • The Combining Food theories basically say, “Perhaps there’s a way that we can trick him out of there.”
     
  • The Featured Food and Other Concepts came to the party just to liven it up and keep it interesting.
     
  • Surgery is the militant one; everything is some kind of “operation” with him. He likes to go in with a knife.
     
  • Then there are the little runners, the pills, who just like to chase him out with a little water.

    6. Mayo Clinic Diet – It’s basically a low carb diet with a half a grapefruit at each meal.
    7. Glycemic Index – This one puts carbs on trial, i.e. separating good carbs from bad carbs.
       
  1. Combining FoodThese diets teach - it’s not so much what you eat as what you eat together that counts.
     
    1. Beverly Hills – Says papaya softens body fat, pineapple burns it off and watermelon flushes it out of the body.
    2. Fit for Life – Fruit till noon, carb meal for lunch, protein meal for dinner
       
  1. Featured Foods – This comes under the “What will they think of next?” category.

  1. Other Concepts
     
    1. Negative Calorie– Foods that provide less calories than the energy needed to burn them.
    2. Blood Test Diet – Type “0”  (which is most people) eat low carb.

    4. Fast – Starve or drink only juice as in the Hollywood Diet.
    5. Raw Foods Diet – No need to cook anymore.
    6. Detox Diet – Purge the toxins.
    7. Body Wraps – Wrap up like a mummy.

    2. Gluten Free Diet – For people allergic to wheat
       
  3. Surgery
