The Problem

Sometimes Windows XP does not keep up with the latest upgrades available from hardware manufacturers. This is true in the case of your CPU. The drivers that come with Windows XP are not always the best and latest ones available, which prevents your computer from reaching its full potential.

The Solution

You can make your computer go appreciably faster (for free) thanks to Intel, the manufacturer of the CPU. Yes, it's true, all you have to do is to install a piece of software called 'Intel Application Accelerator'. This software package removes the standard drivers (called ATA drivers) that come with Windows and replaces them with new Intel drivers that are optimized for desktop computers. This will enable faster delivery of data from the hard drive to the processor and many other hardware components in your computer.

Practically, it provides accelerated disk speed for games, graphics applications and disk utilities. The Application Accelerator also delivers faster overall system boot times by significantly accelerating the load time of Windows.

The Method

Although the software package works with nearly all computers, there will be the odd occasion where it doesn't support your particular chipset so you will first have to find what version you're using, In order to do this you must download the chipset identification utility from the Intel Site.

**Click HERE to download the Chipset Identification Utility** and save the file to your desktop.

Now run the utility (Double Left Click on it) to find out what "chipset" you are using, It will be displayed in the Detected Chipset box.

Now see if you can locate your chipset from the list below. The Intel® Application Accelerator supports the following:

If the chipset in your computer IS found on the list above then proceed with the rest of this lesson, if your chipset ISN'T found, then your computer can't be optimized and there is no need to install the accelerator software.

**Click HERE to download the Intel Application Accelerator**  and save the file to your desktop.
