The Method

  1. Log on to your MSN Messenger.
  2. Left Click on Tools at the top of your MSN Messenger and then Click on Options from the drop-down menu. Select the General tab by Left Clicking. You should see a screen similar to the one shown below.

  1. Uncheck “Automatically run Messenger when I log on to Windows” and “Display MSN Today when Messenger signs in”.

Quick Launch Toolbar

The Problem
Wouldn't it be great if there was a quicker way to launch (start) programs that you use every day?

The Solution
The Quick Launch Toolbar is the answer to this question. If running, it is located on the taskbar as shown in the figure below in one of two places.

If you need to enable it with the directions below, be sure to watch your taskbar to see on which side the Quick Launch Toolbar appears. (It can sometimes be confused with icons of processes running in the background which were started when you booted up your computer)

Text Box: Quick Launch Toolbar

The Method

If you are unable to see the Quick Launch toolbar on your task bar, follow the steps below to enable it.

  1. Right Click on Start. Select Properties by Left Clicking. Make sure the Task Bar tab is at the front. You should see a window similar to the screen shown below.

  1. Check Show Quick Launch. Click Ok.

You should be able to see the Quick Launch toolbar now. You will probably see Internet Explorer and some other icons there. The good thing about this is that you can launch these applications by clicking on these icons. That means, you do not have to minimize other windows or use your Start Menu to launch programs. By adding programs to the quick launch toolbar, your programs are just one click away!!!

Follow the steps below to add programs to the quick launch toolbar.

  1. Make sure that you are able to see the quick launch toolbar. If not, follow the steps shown above to enable it.
  2. Go to the location that you usually do to open the desired program. This could be your desktop or Start Menu
  3. Instead of clicking and opening it. Left Click, hold down and drag that icon or menu item to the Quick Launch toolbar area and then release your mouse button. You should now have that program added to the quick launch toolbar.
