The Problem
There are many invisible applications which are running in the background of your computer and using processor resources that may not be essential to what you currently want to do on your computer. Other applications which you do want running will run more efficiently if they have a higher priority setting from the CPU

The Solution
The processor or CPU in your computer is able to allocate different amounts of processing power to different applications it's currently running. If you had Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word and Media Player all open, all three would be accessing the CPU which then divides a percentage of its processing power to each application, based on the priority of each program.

If you want a favorite application of yours to run at its optimal speed, all that you have to do is to give it a higher priority. By doing this, the CPU allocates a greater percentage of its processing power to that particular application and a lesser percentage to any other program running. Ok That's enough of the geek speak, what I'm trying to say is; if you want a particular application or game to run faster you simply give it a higher priority

The Method
Follow the steps below to increase the priority of a favorite application:

1. Open any program whose priority you want to change. (In this example, I have opened Internet Explorer)

2. Press the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys on your keyboard (at the same time) to bring up the Task Manager

3. Select the Applications tab at the top by Left Clicking on it and then choose the program you want to give higher priority. Again in the example below, I have selected 'Microsoft Internet Explorer'

4. Now Right click on the program and select Go to Process. This will take you to the window shown below:

5. Right Click on the process that has been automatically "highlighted" for you and choose (click on) Set Priority

6. Select High from the list

If you are displayed a warning similar to the one below, Click Yes.

Please note: The higher you set the priority above normal, the more resources the CPU will allocate to your favorite program. I recommend you don't set it above High as Real Time may crash your PC.

8. You can now close down Task Manager by Left Clicking on the X in the upper right corner

9. Your chosen application will now be running at optimal speed. As soon as you close it down, all priorities will return to normal!
