Startup and Shutdown Sounds

The Problem
When your computer starts up or shuts down,
Windows XP plays
two different melodies which some might find annoying and actually slows down
your computer just a little bit.
The Solution
If you disable these sounds you can speed up your computer a
bit and make it be quiet!
The Method
Follow the instructions below to disable the sounds while
starting up or shutting down your computer.
- Place your mouse arrow or cursor on the Start button at the bottom left
of your screen and click your left mouse button once. A
pop-up menu will open.

Click once on Control Panel. A new window will open
- Double
Left Click on Sounds and Audio Devices. A properties box should open
like the one below:

Click on the page tab marked Sounds at the top of the
properties box
and the Sounds page will appear.
- You
will see a list box near the bottom just below the words, Program Events.
- Left
Click several times on the down arrow in the lower right corner of the
list
box until you see the line that says, Exit Windows.

Select
the line that says Exit Windows by Left Clicking on it once. It will
change color to show it is selected.
- Just
below the word Sounds is a small pop-up box. Left Click once
on the arrow at the right end of the box and it will open.

Left
Click on the up arrow at the top of the box until you get to the beginning
of the list. Now Left Click on (None)
- Start
at #6 again to disable the sound for Start Windows.

Left Click
on Apply and Ok.
