The Problem

Windows Media Player with its Visualizations feature in operation is a real drain on your computer's speed by consuming huge amounts of processing power. In order to see for yourself, you could go to the Task Manager (Right Click on your Task Bar and Select Task Manager and click on the Performance tab. You will notice that when Windows Media Player is playing some music and visualizations is turned on, it uses around 50% or more of your computer's processing power compared with 14% when just playing music.

 

The Solution
Unless you enjoy sitting in front of your computer and becoming hypnotized by the swirling colors, Turn that thing off!! 

 

The Method

Follow the steps below to disable the Visualizations feature. (These instructions are for Windows Media Player 10. Earlier versions may have a slightly different menu arrangement)

 

  1. Open Media Player
  2. Make sure the Now Playing tab on the top left is selected by Left Clicking on it.
  3. Right Click on the Windows icon in the upper left corner of the Player window. A drop-down menu will appear.
  4. Left Click on View, and then Visualizations.
  5. In the sub-menu that has just 'popped-out', select No Visualization by Left Clicking on it.
