The Thread
This came from
Zoe in Illinois

When I was in high school, our Home Ec. teacher pulled this prank on us. She wore a black blouse with a breast pocket. In the pocket she had a spool of white thread. She used a needle to pull the thread through her back shoulder, where the end of the white thread lay on her dark blouse. When we saw this white thread laying on her shoulder, we were obliged to take it off and throw it away... except when we picked it up, it kept getting longer and longer! The April Fool was on us!

More Pranks

We've all heard of—or tried—some form  of this Bart Simpson-esque trick, but we got a chuckle out of this wild animal version nonetheless. To pull it off, simply leave your victim a convincing-
sounding message (either on paper or on an answering machine) from a certain "Mr. Lyon," who has called about an urgent matter (a missed lunch date is good for extra laughs) and would like a return call as soon as possible. Mr. Lyon's number? The phone number for your local zoo.

jester2.gif (6147 bytes)In sixteenth-century France, the start of the new year was observed on April first. It was celebrated in much the same way as it is today with parties and dancing into the late hours of the night. Then in 1562, Pope Gregory introduced a new calendar for the Christian world, and the new year fell on January first. There were some people, however, who hadn't heard or didn't believe the change in the date, so they continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April first. Others played tricks on them and called them "April fools." They sent them on a "fool's errand" or tried to make them believe that something false was true.

Today Americans play small tricks on friends and strangers alike on the first of April. One common trick on April Fool's Day, or All Fool's Day, is pointing down to a friend's shoe and saying, "Your shoelace is untied."

Make Dessert Look Like Dinner and Dinner Look Like Dessert:

April Fools Recipes

Meatloaf Cake

This idea is from Deb Speer from Bloomington, IN.

meatloaf
mashed potatoes
catsup, optional

Make your favorite meatloaf recipe and bake in 2 round cake pans. Frost with mashed potatoes that are the consistency of frosting. I usually write "Happy April Fool's Day" on the cake with catsup.

Spaghetti CakeSpaghetti Cake

your favorite cake baked & cooled
noodles: buttercream frosting, tint a very, very light yellow.
meatballs: fudge with nuts
spaghetti sauce: red jelly, heat gently so it is more spreadable
parmesan cheese: white chocolate, grated

have on hand
pastry bag with coupler
small round tip

Cut cake into smaller pieces and place them into your "spaghetti" bowl.
Spread the tin layer of frosting over the cake, don't worry if the cake shows through.
Put buttercream in a pastry bag with a small round tip.
Squeeze away, letting the "noodles" fall where they may, let some drip over the bowl sides as well.
Spread a little jelly over the "noodles".
Let fudge soften, then mold into round "meatballs" and place on top of cake.
Roll "meatballs" in jelly.
Grate a little white chocolate over all for the "parmesan cheese".
